C’mon Jack!!

I’m somewhat dismayed at the clumsiness of recruiters who seem to think spamming job opportunities to other recruiters (thinking they are candidates), is going to be fruitful. Here, I post first the “pitch” by Sr Recruiter Jack Anderson (is his name really Jack Anderson, or is this just a superhero disguise left over from Halloween?).

Since Jack not only isn’t someone I know, and I’m guessing he doesn’t know much about me, I just thought I’d respond to the point. Frankly I’m always looking for colleagues to work with, but I’m guessing Jack isn’t really up for that since it’s been a few days and no call from Jack.

“Jack,
Thanks so much for writing to me. As you may have seen from my profile, I’m also in the staffing business. In fact my company is 21 years old today, though I had a few years experience before incorporating in 1993. And I specialize in individuals in the process control area, from project types, to hardware associated individuals to really concentrating on those who do the software customization, programming, and configuration of both DCS and PLC based platforms.

Sounds like we’re kin!

Anyway, I thought I’d mention that I’m not at all adverse to doing split work with professional firms that can get results. Over the years, I’ve worked with a handful of staffing and engineering companies, both providing individuals, but also offering opportunities in a way so that both firms can profit and succeed. I’d be happy to discuss this with you when you have time, and you’re always welcome to give me a call at the phone number I have listed below.

I have a few requirements (outside of the normal professional courtesies). The primary one is a strong and demonstrated urgency on the part of the hiring authority. My focus and function is to locate a qualified individual who is capable of committing TODAY, and in that same way, I want clients who are eager enough to hire that they will make that first telephone call/ meeting/ phone interview within 24 hours of presenting the candidate. Lots of recruiters, and recruiting firms are willing to wait until the cows come home for activity, but this doesn’t get people hired (nor make you money).

Last week is an example of this. In presenting a candidate in Atlanta for an opportunity in Boston, I had both on the phone within 24 hours, with follow up conversations over the next two days, and a negotiated offer by the end of the week. I wouldn’t let them have the weekend until we met the number both could be happy with. Simultaneously a role in North Carolina required my candidate from here in Houston (he owns a 40′ boat that has to be transported). Multiple times between phone calls and taking temps, I implored them to keep talking, or give me the option of finding replacements (both ways). The offer is coming as I type this. I’m brokering two candidates for a paper mill in Louisiana. Again, time is of the essence and the client despite being in an outage MADE conversations happen with his staff on these candidates. That offer was made Friday afternoon as well. The week before wasn’t much calmer.

So, if you have a client who is serious enough to truly Make Something Happen, meaning that they know exactly what they need to hire, and have the authority to do that (and are not in a fantasy about what people make in today’s market), I would enjoy the opportunity to make you some money while making your clients happy.

Best regards,
